Fire Prevention

Firefighting is something you train for in the event to be called into action.  Fire prevention is something you train for to keep all of us safe.

When is a controlled burn not a controlled burn?

In the past several months, the department has responded to several "controlled burns" that got out of control.  The first fire rekindled after a good night of burning to take out a garage, a camper, and wood splitting equipment.

The second cause some damage to the primary home after the shed became involved in the fire.  Use caution and care when burning and be sure to secure a permit.

Fire Extinguishers

They remain your best bet if you're on the spot when a fire begins.

  • Fire extinguishers should be mounted in the kitchen, garage, and workshop.
  • Purchase an ABC type extinguisher for extinguishing all types of fires.
  • Learn how to use your fire extinguisher before there is an emergency.
  • Remember, use an extinguisher on small fires only. If there is a large fire, get out immediately and call 911 from another location.

Electrical safety

U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average of 20,900 reported home structure fires involving electrical distribution or lighting equipment in 2005. These fires resulted in 500 civilian fire deaths, 1,100 civilian fire injuries, and $862 million in direct property damage.

Hidden electrical hazards
Ignoring your home's electrical system can be a costly mistake.

Our equipment might, but Fire Prevention never gets old...

A few of our firefighters were heart broken when we retired the older engine known within the department as the "FWD". a 1961 FWD Engine with a 750 GPM pump and an onboard tank for 750 gallons.

Fire prevention activities allow us to retire equipment verses replacing equipment due to extended use.

Please join us in giving thanks to the services provided by "FWD".
