Other than responding to emergency situations, one of our main goals as a fire department is fire prevention. We accomplish this through public education programs and fire inspections. Fire Prevention is emphasized in October of every year with Fire Prevention Week but we strive to prevent fire accidents every day of the year. Below is a closer look at how we do this and what programs we have available to the public.
Fire Prevention Presentations and Station Tours
Fire Prevention week comes every October. During the weeks prior and up to Fire Prevention week, the Sauk City Fire Department offers Fire station tours and presentations to area schools within our Fire District. Firefighters either host station tours or travel to the classroom and present important fire safety messages to the students. On the Wednesday of Fire Prevention week, we open our station doors to the public to host an open house with fire prevention messages, a fire demonstration and fire truck rides. Food and beverage are also provided. We also offer tours to business groups and individuals on an appointment basis year round. Fire Extinguisher Training
When fire breaks out, having a fire extinguisher and knowing how to properly use it can quickly save lives and property. The Sauk City Fire Department offers fire extinguisher demonstrations and training for your group or business by appointment. Close Before You Doze
In case of fire, a closed door can isolate the fire’s flow, reduce room temperatures and keep carbon monoxide levels down. Close Before You Doze aims to make closing doors at night part of people’s bedtime routine. This, along with having working smoke detectors and an escape plan could make the difference in you and your loved ones getting out of a fire.
